Memphis man with sickle cell disease defies odds after doctors feared he wouldn’t survive 24 hours

Christen Dukes has been defying the odds since the day he was born.

Dukes was born three months premature, weighing just 2 pounds, 5 ounces. He also has cerebral palsy and sickle cell disease, an inherited blood disorder that can cause severe pain and potentially serious complications.

“The doctor said that I would live 24 hours. And if I did, that I would be confined to a wheelchair, not able to talk and walk,” Dukes said…
