A Corinth man is facing kidnapping and attempted murder charges after police say he abducted a victim at gunpoint and shot them, leaving the victim badly wounded enough to require an emergency helicopter flight to a Memphis trauma center. Bacarra Lamar Hill, 39, was taken into custody Friday afternoon following a traffic stop, according to the Corinth Police Department.
The case began Thursday, October 1, when officers responding to the Scott Street area found a person lying in the roadway with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, according to WTVA. Investigators allege Hill had kidnapped the victim at gunpoint before the shooting occurred. The victim was airlifted from a Belk’s parking lot to Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee, the station reports.
Why the Victim Was Flown Across State Lines
The trip to Memphis was not incidental. Regional One’s Elvis Presley Trauma Center is the only designated Level 1 Adult Trauma Center within 150 miles, serving critical patients across West Tennessee, North Mississippi, and East Arkansas, according to Regional One Health, which treats more than 7,000 high-risk emergency patients each year.
