Man charged in shooting death of veteran on New Year’s Eve to face court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of killing an army veteran in Southeast Memphis on New Year’s Eve in 2024 is expected to appear before a judge Tuesday morning.

Kobie Deunta Hope is charged with first-degree murder and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Authorities say Hope fatally gunned down Charles Cicalla at a home in the 3700 block of Maple Leaf Cove in Hickory Hill.

Cicalla’s mother, Kimberly Brown, and his sister, Heather Hering, said Hope is no stranger to the court system, as he was previously arrested on December 22 and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun.
