80-year-old Alabama seafood restaurant to open its first out-of-state location

A popular Alabama seafood restaurant is looking to open its first out-of-state-location this summer.

Wintzell’s Oyster House, which got its start in 1938 in Mobile and now has several locations throughout Alabama, will be opening a new restaurant in Memphis, Tenn., in June, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Located at 250 Peabody Place in downtown Memphis, the restaurant signed a lease for the 6,700-square-foot space, which has been vacant since June 2025 and formerly housed a Hooters location, on April 14.

John Elkington of Elkington Real Estate Group said bringing Wintzell’s to Memphis was a ” multiyear process.”…
