MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Pennsylvania woman, mourning the loss of her son and father, found a 3.09-carat white diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, bringing her a moment of joy.
Park officials said Keshia Smith started planning her trip and researching the diamond site over a year ago.

After losing her son in October and her father in April, Smith hoped the diamond hunt would bring some much-needed comfort.
Smith, pictured with her boyfriend and brother, found the diamond on April 22 while digging on the south end of the park’s 37.5-acre diamond search area.
Smith said she scooped up something shiny, put it in her bag, and kept digging. It wasn’t until she later sifted through her dirt and washed off the shiny crystal that she realized she might have found herself a diamond.Smith brought her find to the park’s Diamond Discovery Center, where staff confirmed that her glimmering stone was a gorgeous, 3.09-carat white diamond…
