Phoenix, AZ, Has a Significant Shortage of Homes for Middle-Income Earners

The dream of finding an affordable home continues to be a significant challenge for many prospective buyers across the country.

This growing disparity is highlighted in the May 2026 Housing Mismatch Report, a collaborative analysis from Realtor.comĀ® and the National Association of RealtorsĀ®. The report reveals that middle-income households face the largest supply gap, with buyers earning around $75,000 able to afford homes priced up to about $261,140.

Nationally, homes priced below this point account for only about 23% of listings, a stark contrast to the approximately 44% found in a balanced market, representing an effective shortage of about 311,000 listings for these buyers…
