PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The monsoon is back! An active stretch of weather is underway this weekend, with blowing dust concerns this evening, followed by the potential for strong-to-severe thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon and evening.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for southern Arizona, including Pinal County, until 10 p.m. A Blowing Dust Advisory is also in effect from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for Pinal County and the southern portions of Maricopa County, including communities such as Queen Creek.
Scattered thunderstorms will continue across southeastern and north-central Arizona this evening. Some of these storms will produce heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and areas of blowing dust. While the greatest dust threat is expected to remain in Pinal County, communities such as Queen Creek could also experience reduced visibility. Some of the outflow winds and blowing dust may eventually make their way into the Phoenix metro later tonight. However, that will depend on how well the outflow boundaries hold together…
