Some of the more than 2,500 high school juniors and seniors attending the East Valley Institute of Technology’s Mesa campuses probably were breathing easier last week after it reached an agreement on funding with the nine school districts that sued it.
But many others weren’t as they took to social media to complain about transportation snafus at many schools throughout those nine districts.
Tempe Union Superintendent Dr. Stacia Wilson posted a message on July 29 to parents saying she is demanding from EVIT and the transportation provider “the name of each driver assigned to transport students; Confirmation that each driver meets all qualifications and requirements established in the IGA; The type and passenger capacity of each vehicle assigned to each school; The number of vehicles that will report to each school each day; Identification of the routes serving the EVIT Main Campus and Power Campus.”
She also said, “We understand from our schools that there continue to be numerous issues with EVIT-provided transportation. Among many other things, it appears that Uber and Lyft drivers are being sub-contracted to transport students.We have been contacting EVIT daily with our concerns and have not received a response.”…
