PHOENIX — No. 25 Arizona State’s pitching staff has forged a double-edged sword. With its strikeout-heavy approach pacing toward a school record, a sharp, fine blade has emerged, capable of slicing through opposing lineups. But the weapon they’ve created has also posed a dangerous risk to themselves.
As a majority of their pitches find the zone throughout games, the Sun Devils have frequently stabbed opponents deep with punch-outs. They’ve also cut themselves too often due to imprecise command of their instrument.
