Maricopa County health inspectors cited a metro Phoenix restaurant for seven health violations during the week of April 20. Violations included not washing hands before touching food ready to be served and not using sanitizer to wash dishes, among others.
A priority violation is a major violation that directly increases the risk of foodborne illness or injury. If listed in inspection reports, remedies implemented during the inspection are noted.
During the week of April 20, inspectors visited around 1,360 restaurants and other food-serving facilities in hospitals, senior homes and schools. About 330 restaurants received an “A” rating. See a sampling of the A-rated restaurants at the bottom of this article.
7 priority violations
Lee’s Sandwiches, 1901 W. Warner Road, Chandler
- An employee left the building, returned and handled ready-to-eat food with gloves without washing hands first. The manager had the employee wash hands during the inspection.
- Cartons of raw eggs were stored above cream filling in the walk-in cooler, creating a risk of cross-contamination. Items were reorganized properly.
- The three-compartment sinks being used for washing dishes had no sanitizer. The manager made sanitizer to the proper concentration and resanitized the equipment.
- Cooked pork and chicken were being held below the safe temperature of 135 degrees. The pork was reheated, and the chicken was thrown away.
- Meatballs and deli meats were stored above the fill line in prep coolers and were too warm. They were moved to proper refrigeration to cool down.
- The restaurant produces yogurt, but did not have the required logs for time, temperature and pH. These records must be kept.
- Water lines for coffee pots and a hose did not have the required backflow prevention devices. These must be installed before the next inspection.
