Miami-Dade Law Enforcement Officers Memorial

Each year, we gather in solemn reflection, bound by a shared duty to remember those who gave everything in service to others. Since its establishment in 1980, the Miami-Dade Law Enforcement Officers Memorial has stood as a sacred space—171 names etched in stone, each representing a life defined by courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protect. This year, we will add two more names. Two more families will stand before that wall, carrying a grief that time does not erase.

The pain endured by the loved ones left behind is immeasurable. As a law enforcement community, we remain steadfast in our promise to support them—not only in moments of public remembrance, but in the quiet, difficult days that follow. Through organizations like the Police Officers Assistance Trust, and the Florida Deputy Sheriff’s Association, we work to ensure that these families are never alone, that the legacy of their loved ones is honored not just in words, but in action.

To wear this badge is to accept a profound responsibility. It is to understand that, at any moment, you may be called to place yourself between danger and another human being. That level of selflessness is difficult to comprehend, yet it is the reality our deputies face each day. Already this year, dozens of officers across our nation have been killed in the line of duty. Last year, our own Deputy Sheriff Devin Jaramillo made that ultimate sacrifice, alongside Miami Beach Police Department Officer David Cajuso, who left behind a wife and three very young children.
