Miami mother and son face federal charges for fraud and identity theft

MIAMI, Florida — A mother and son appeared in federal court on Friday, accused of fraud and identity theft involving an elderly victim, according to court records.

Natacha Maria Lezcano, also known as Maria Margarita Lezcano, 63, of Miami, and her son, Daniel Romero, 33, also of Miami, are facing charges after allegedly exploiting an elderly woman for financial gain. Lezcano became a live-in caregiver for the victim in 2020 and later allowed Romero to move into the victim’s residence, stated U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida.

“This indictment alleges a cruel betrayal of trust,” Quiñones said. “According to the charges, the victim, an elderly woman, opened her home to these defendants and, in return, they exploited her age, her trust, and her identity for financial gain.”…
