Historically Black Colleges and Universities see significant increase

MILWAUKEE — Historically Black Colleges and Universities are seeing a significant increase in applications and enrollment nationwide, according to the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education.

In Wisconsin, Milwaukee Public Schools is the district that sends the most students to HBCUs. MPS high schools have been increasing their efforts to connect more students to HBCUs through college fairs, career counseling and scholarship development with local companies.

Recent Ronald Reagan High School graduates Jayden Bernal and Mason Chester-Hopkins are two of the MPS students headed to HBCUs in the fall.
