MILWAUKEE, Wis. – With Milwaukee County facing a more than $50 million financial deficit in 2027, one supervisor is floating the idea of ending the annual July 3 drone show on the lakefront to save the $250,000 event cost.
Sheldon Wasserman’s proposal to end the drone show two years after it replaced the long-standing July 3 fireworks show at Veteran’s Park comes following the supervisor’s survey sent to constituents asking whether they would favor enhancing the drone show as is, or putting those funds to use in other areas of need if restoring a fireworks show is not possible. The results first unveiled by the supervisor on Wisconsin’s Morning News July 28 showed 85% of respondents would favor ending the drone show if it meant money would be dolled out to fund other County services.
“If you have 85% of your constituent base [that] does not want something, you listen to your constituents point blank. As chair of the Parks and Culture Committee, I can’t keep on pushing something that people don’t want,” said Wasserman…
