MILWAUKEE — Ruth Heller still does not know what happened to her brother Orin Anderson, who was last seen 53 years ago. But John Wayne Gacy’s reported presence in Wisconsin in the 1970s is worth a second look.
On August 26, 1973, Anderson was spending time with friends at Virmond Park in Mequon. He went swimming with friends but was last seen around 6:30 p.m. near the park’s bluffs. A dive team was eventually dispatched to Lake Michigan on suspicion that Anderson drowned.
Anderson’s brother Erik said, “Lake Michigan always throws up its dead.” Because no body was found, he has another theory about his brother’s disappearance.
“He might have just taken off,” Anderson said. “I mean my parents made him babysit six other kids and he wanted to go into mechanics. He could have just said, ‘I’m out of here.’”…
