The owners behind Sorella are preparing to open Pizzeria Di Lusso in the former Nana Sushi space at 4511 N. Oakland Ave., with an opening targeted for early summer. And the concept is bringing more than just another neighborhood pizzeria.
It will introduce two distinct styles of East Coast pizza that are rare (if they exist at all) in the Milwaukee area, both of which take inspiration from Chef Kyle Toner and Paul Damora hometown of New Jersey, where pizza culture tends to be a category all its own.
The first is Central Jersey tomato pie (AKA the Trenton tomato pie). It features a thin, crisp crust with just a bit of chew, topped first with cheese and other ingredients.
