Cops Nab Five Teens After West Side Chase Tied to Robbery

Five teenagers were taken into custody Thursday after Milwaukee police chased a vehicle they say was linked to an armed robbery. The pursuit started around 10 a.m. on the 5500 block of W. Silver Spring Drive and wrapped up when one suspect bailed from the car and ran on W. Appleton Place, according to police.

According to TMJ4, officers tried to pull the vehicle over after recognizing it as one wanted in connection with an armed robbery. The driver allegedly refused to stop, triggering a brief chase. At the end of the pursuit, Milwaukee Police arrested a 16-year-old female, a 16-year-old male, two 17-year-old females and a 15-year-old male. Police said criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office as investigators determine the next steps.

How the chase unfolded

Police say officers first spotted the vehicle on W. Silver Spring Drive and attempted a traffic stop. When the driver did not comply, the pursuit began. It ended a short time later near W. Appleton Place after one person ran from the car on foot, and officers moved in and detained multiple occupants in the area.

The department’s January policy overhaul followed community concerns about crashes and deaths tied to previous pursuits.

Where this fits citywide

City officials say several serious crime categories are down so far this year, with nonfatal shootings down 27% and carjackings down 39% year-to-date, based on figures released by the mayor’s office in early May. The City of Milwaukee has credited a broader public safety push for the drop, even as individual incidents like police chases continue to draw close scrutiny from residents and oversight bodies…
