One city in Ramsey County is alerting community members and asking them to be vigilant after a black bear was spotted near residential properties, a local school, and church.
In a social media announcement, the City of North Oaks shared a black bear had been sighted on the 5000 block of Hodgson Road Tuesday evening, just north of the Wildflower entrance.
They also shared a photo of the bear, snacking on the contents of a bird feeder.
“Residents in this area should consider taking measures to make their property less bear-friendly by removing bird feeders, storing their garbage cans and grills in a secure area,” the post details.
According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), between 13,000 and 18,000 black bears call the state home, with mating season typically running from May through July. They are typically found in the northern third of the state, but do travel further south as they look for food…
