Twin Cities Juneteenth celebrations: Free festivals, runs and tours

Juneteenth is on Friday and events will take over the Twin Cities this weekend, to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

From concerts and festivals to community events, celebrations kick off Thursday.

Minneapolis

The annual Soul of the Southside Festival will take over Minnehaha Avenue and East Lake Street on Friday. The free festival runs from noon to 8 p.m. Metro Transit will offer free rides to the event.

“Juneteenth: Freedom In Motion,” an eight-mile community run and bike ride, is happening Friday morning. The community event begins at 8 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis at Blackbird Revolt. There will be multiple route options for all experience levels; more details about the event and how to reserve a spot are available online.

St. Paul

At the State Capitol, the ANIKA Foundation will host a Juneteenth celebration on Friday. The event will highlight culture and legacy through food and music. It will run from noon to 6 p.m…
