An extended stretch of heat is encompassing the Upper Midwest with extreme heat warnings and heat advisories in place. Several days of hot and humid weather ahead.
Heat is just getting started
Our heat story is just beginning. Temperatures will continue to climb through the weekend, with the hottest weather arriving early next week. Even overnight, there won’t be much relief as lows only fall into the upper 60s and lower 70s, allowing heat to build from one day to the next.
A prolonged stretch of dangerous heat begins Sunday and is expected to last through much of next week, prompting a heat advisory for the Twin Cities and much of central Minnesota. Farther north, where temperatures and heat impacts will be even greater, an extreme heat warning has been issued.
Daily high temperatures will consistently reach the lower to middle 90s, with the hottest days likely arriving Monday and Tuesday when some locations could push into the mid-90s to near 100 degrees.
Afternoon heat index values will climb into the 95 to 100 degree range, making it feel even hotter during the peak of the day.
Rain chances remain slim through most of the week as the strong ridge suppresses any storm development. Most storm systems are expected to stay well north across Canada and the northern Great Lakes. A few isolated precipitation chances may return late in the week as the ridge begins to weaken…
