MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Heavy smoke from large wildfires in Canada and northern Minnesota is pushing across the Midwest and Northeast, threatening to expose millions of people to unhealthy air. The smoke plume is moving southeast on wind currents as unusually hot summer weather adds another layer of risk.
Warnings about dangerous air stretched from Minnesota through Toronto and into New York on Wednesday. Health officials said the combination of smoke and heat makes it especially important to stay indoors when possible and limit exposure outside.
