A Minnesota daycare owner has pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges in a case that prosecutors say involved millions of dollars in fraudulent claims submitted through government-funded childcare programs, adding another chapter to an expanding investigation into alleged misuse of public funds.
Daycare Owner Admits to Federal Fraud Charges
Federal prosecutors announced that Fahima Mahamud, who operated a daycare center in Minneapolis, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy charges.
According to prosecutors, Mahamud admitted to participating in a scheme that defrauded the federal Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) by submitting false reimbursement claims and receiving millions of dollars to which she was not entitled.
Authorities allege the fraud continued over an extended period and resulted in substantial financial losses to the government.
