Traffic Stop Turns Into High-Speed Police Chase

According to the criminal complaint in the case, on February 3, a Dakota County Sheriff’s deputy was on routine patrol and spotted Ottomo speeding at around 85 mph in a 55-mile-per-hour zone on the highway in Vermillion Township. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop with the squad car’s emergency lights activated, the court document says the Eyota man accelerated away from the law enforcement officer.

The criminal complaint describes the resulting pursuit, which led to a business parking lot, where the deputy attempted to perform a PIT maneuver to end the chase. That failed, and the court document says Ottomo managed to elude the pursuing deputy by driving over a snowbank to exit the parking lot.
