After more than four decades, French Meadow closes Minneapolis location

After more than four decades — and a tumultuous last year — the French Meadow on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis has closed, according to a notice posted to its front door.

“After an unexpected and difficult transitional year,” the notice, signed by founder Lynn Gordon, states, “including the sale of French Meadow Bakery & Café and Bluestem Bar on Lyndale Avenue, our beloved café and bar are now closed.”

Founded by Gordon in 1985, French Meadow quickly became a culinary pillar of the neighborhood, offering organic, vegetarian, and vegan options, which were not commonplace at restaurants in those early years…
