Minneapolis woman forced to euthanize beloved horse after highway crash

A Minneapolis woman is asking for the community’s support after a highway accident led to her having to euthanize her beloved horse.

On Tuesday, Vanessa Vega was in the process of moving to Texas when a tire blew out on her car.

Vega pulled to the side of the road when a speeding car crashed into the trailer containing her horse, Boxer. The horse then jumped out of the trailer and ran down the highway, where it was hit and sustained a broken leg.

“Unfortunately, I had to make the painful choice to euthanize him to end his suffering,” Vega wrote in a GoFundMe , describing Boxer as her “loyal companion for ten years.”

Vega says money raised through the GoFundMe will go toward cremation, repairs and legal fees.

“Thank you all so much, and thank you, Boxer, for being the best horse I could have ever asked for!” she wrote.

As of Thursday, the fundraiser had reached around $500 of its $5,000 goal.
