Inmate who reportedly escaped Plymouth work assignment back in custody

PLYMOUTH, Minn. — Authorities say a man who reportedly fled a community work crew assignment in Plymouth on Friday is back in custody.

According to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, Michael L. Vang removed his GPS monitoring device at about 9 a.m., and investigators believe he was helped by “an individual who provided transportation from the vicinity of the work site.”

He was incarcerated on a weapons possession offense, the DOC said in a news release. He was assigned to an Institution Community Work Crew based out of the Minnesota Correctional Facility–Lino Lakes. Officials say he is classified as “minimum custody,” which allows him to be part of the work crew program…
