Bay Minette police tap new tool to speed distressed man to Alta Pointe care

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (NBC 15) — According to Bay Minette Police, Thursday morning at 8:37, officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious person in front of the United Bank on McMeans Avenue.

When officers arrived, they engaged a male who was in obvious, mental distress. The male indicated that he needed assistance that the officers were not qualified to provide.

Days earlier, Bay Minette Police Department finalized an agreement with Alta Pointe Health. The agreement resulted in the issuance of several electronic devices which would put law enforcement officers in direct contact with a qualified mental health professional at the push of a button…
