Fairhope woman on her mission to build first women’s history monument on National Mall

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) – A new episode of “Living It Up with Lenise” is out now, featuring Anna Laymon, a Fairhope resident and executive director of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation, the organization tasked by Congress with building the first monument on the National Mall dedicated to American women’s history.

Laymon splits her time between her home on the Eastern Shore and Washington, D.C., where she leads the effort to add a women’s history monument to a National Mall that currently has 40 monuments, memorials and statues — none dedicated to American women’s history.

In the episode, host Lenise Ligon talks with Laymon about the yearslong push to get the project authorized by Congress, the bipartisan coalition of lawmakers who backed it, and the role played by every living former first lady, who serve as honorary chairs of the foundation.
