Vermont firm wins contract to dismantle Navy ship in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Vermont company will be working in Mobile after being awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to dismantle a decommissioned Navy ship, according to the U.S. Department of War.

The department released a list of contracts awarded July 15, including a contract with NorthStar Maritime Dismantlement Services LLC, out of Vernon, Vermont, for $418,497,668 for the “dismantling, recycling and disposal of ex-Enterprise (CVN 65).”

Under the contract, the ship will be dismantled “in its entirety,” and everything on it and in it will be recycled or properly disposed of, including hazardous materials…
