MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Monday will feature the greatest coverage of showers and thunderstorms as an upper-level disturbance combines with deep tropical moisture across the Gulf Coast. This moisture is exceptionally high for this time of year, allowing storms to produce very heavy rainfall in a short amount of time.
Rainfall rates could reach 2 to 3 inches per hour, increasing the risk for localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas, poor drainage locations, and places that receive multiple rounds of storms.
By midweek, rain chances gradually decrease as high pressure rebuilds, returning us to a more typical July pattern of scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Even with more opportunities for rain, the heat and humidity aren’t going anywhere, and heat index values will continue to top 100 degrees each afternoon through the end of the week…
