DAPHNE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Two fast growing Baldwin County cities are pumping the brakes on certain types of development. Fairhope has extended its pause on applications for multifamily housing and some high-density subdivisions. On Monday night, Daphne approved a six-month moratorium on new apartment complex applications.
“This is a good opportunity for us to kind of take a breath, look at our comprehensive plan,” said Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune.
Several apartment complexes have been built in Daphne in recent years, with two more on the way. Two hundred units are planned for the Italian Village development at the corner of County Road 64 and Highway 181. Daphne’s City Council approved the moratorium while city leaders rewrite the city’s land use ordinance to better align with its comprehensive plan.
