Two arrested in Fourth of July downtown Pensacola shooting; homicide suspect still sought

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – Two people have been arrested in connection with a Fourth of July shooting in downtown Pensacola that killed one man and injured six others, but neither faces a murder charge, police said.

Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom said three guns were used in the shootings. The victim killed was identified as 19-year-old Phillip Devon Monte Sheppard Jr., known to friends and family as P.J.

Police arrested Nicholas Safford, 26, of Daphne on charges of aggravated assault, weapons possession and firing a weapon.

Winstrom said Safford gave his gun to Lillian Meyers, 25, of Pensacola, who then fled the scene with it. Meyers faces charges of public order crimes and obstructing justice…
