‘All you could see was red’: Residents describe wildfire near Citronelle

CITRONELLE, Ala. (WKRG) — A wildfire burning near Citronelle has scorched more than 1,500 acres over four days, leaving residents along Robert Walker Road watching closely as it continues to burn.

Residents told News 5 the fire started Saturday, and now smoke and acres of burned land surround homes in the area.

Kasandra Thornton, who lives along Robert Walker Road, said she first noticed the fire while driving home with her daughter.

“I was coming back on the road, I had my younger daughter with me, and she was like, ‘Mom, look at that big ball of smoke.’ And we thought, you know, okay, no big deal,” Thornton said. “I get home, and well, there was a whole yard on fire.”

Thornton said the flames moved quickly, growing into a large wildfire that has now burned more than 1,500 acres.

She said the experience has been frightening, especially as the fire remains visible from her home…
