MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man cleaning out a rental home in Midtown Mobile off Florida Street came across something historic, and deadly — a grenade sitting in a 100-degree attic for over 50 years.
Bill Appling is very familiar with the antique scene in Mobile. He frequently gets calls to go through old rentals and clean them out, but on Wednesday morning, while in an attic in Midtown, he came across his most concerning find yet.
“So in a box of Christmas ribbons and some old Christmas ornaments was a little piece of metal sticking out, which I grabbed and pulled out and instantly recognized as a grenade,” said Bill Appling.
