Citronelle wildfire contained after burning more than 1,700 acres

CITRONELLE, Ala. (WALA) – A wildfire that started on little more than 20 acres in Citronelle Saturday has been contained after burning more than 1,700 acres.

Alabama State Forestry has been busy fighting wildfires this week. Just over the weekend, more than 50 were reported across Alabama. The Citronelle fire burned across forests and swamps, affecting multiple property owners.

State Forestry crews from the Southwest Division worked around the clock to contain the forest fire that spread quickly. In this case, it wasn’t just the terrain and dry conditions that caused a problem. In the beginning stages, a property owner also slowed their progress, according to Baldwin County Forester Andy Reier.
