SUMMERDALE, Ala. (WALA) – Drought conditions are worsening across Alabama, putting pressure on local farmers.
The last rain fell on Easter Sunday. Farmers who planted corn before that date are watching their crops emerge, but there has been no relief since.
Baldwin County row cropper Tim Mullek is seeing stress in his young corn crop. The soil is dry and as the plants grow, their need for water increases.
“This is the corn plant’s response to dry weather. He curls his leaves up to conserve moisture, as opposed to these plants over here. These plants over here, now he may be curling tomorrow, but he’s not curling today,” Mullek said…
