Mobile City Council delays vote on new regulations for private ambulance firms

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The City Council on Tuesday delayed consideration of new regulations for private ambulance companies to provide time to consider proposed amendments.

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department has been working for months to update its ordinance. Two private companies currently transfer patients among hospitals and to other health care facilities. In exchange for those moneymaking duties, they must respond to lower-level 911 calls requiring basic life support. Those calls typically are not profitable.
