MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Time is running out for the historic ocean liner SS United States as it sits in Mobile awaiting a final decision on whether it will be sunk and turned into an artificial reef.
Okaloosa County officials say the ship has been cleaned to meet federal and state environmental standards and that the reefing project is moving forward, pending final approvals from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
