MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile Housing Authority presented expansion plans to the city council Tuesday but left without approval after officials could not provide exact waitlist numbers during the meeting.
The Administrative Services Committee meeting focused on the agency’s proposal to expand public housing capacity through land development and nonprofit partnerships. MHA serves more than 3,500 low-income families across the city through public housing and Section 8 vouchers.
Council seeks more data
MHA manages more than 2,600 public housing units and distributes housing vouchers across the city. Interim CEO Pat Hobam-Moore said the need for public housing in Mobile is growing and expanding the program is critical.
“We are a significant part of the community. Our residents in public housing are citizens of Mobile, and they have the right to have livable and decent housing, and we want to make sure that is adhered to,” Hobam-Moore said…
