Callahan School for the Deaf and Blind evacuated after chemical smell reported

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Callahan School for the Deaf and Blind on Burma Road was evacuated after the staff reported a strong chemical odor in the building, officials say.

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s hazardous materials team performed a sweep of the school, including air monitoring, but found no hazardous materials, fire officials say. As a precaution, however, crews stayed on the scene ventilating rooms.

School has been dismissed for the day, so no additional school disruptions are expected, the MFRD says…
