PATTERSON, CA — A man shot by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during an enforcement stop in central California was taken into FBI custody Monday after being released from a hospital, according to his attorney.
Attorney Patrick Kolasinski said Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez had undergone three surgeries for multiple gunshot wounds before federal officials discharged him into custody. Kolasinski said neither Mendoza’s family nor his legal team was told ahead of time.
Attorney says family was not notified
The attorney described the transfer as alarming, saying Mendoza was still in serious pain and should not have left the hospital. He said Mendoza had been shot in the jaw and was having trouble speaking after the shooting.
