Modesto’s inclusive playground, a decade-long in the making, will soon be one step closer to completion.
Construction of the Awesome Spot Playground is expected to resume in early 2027, with a contract being awarded by the end of this year, city spokesperson Cynella Aghasi said. This contract and construction will cover the play area for kids ages 2 through 5.
This part of the playground will be savanna themed, project designer and landscape architect Chad Kennedy said. It will feature a water play area that wheelchair users can access, a sensory wall, embankment slides that follow the grade of a hill, a “Pride Rock” area with a lion sculpture, musical play equipment, a shaded structure to help with the heat, a Toyota Tundra play piece, an accessible restroom, swings and a grass hut…
