(FOX40.COM) — A man stopped for a traffic violation was arrested after officers found an “immense shipment” of meth and fentanyl in his car, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
On July 28, officers pulled over 53-year-old Walter Merritt, of Los Angeles County, for a traffic violation while he was driving on Interstate 5 through San Joaquin County. After searching the vehicle, officers found more than 50 pounds of meth and about a kilogram of powdered fentanyl, the district attorney’s office said.
Although initially released from jail pending charges, Merritt was put back in police custody after his court appearance Tuesday. The judge ruled that he was a “severe danger to society” due to the “sheer volume of drugs” that officers seized…
