Murder suspect arrested after woman found dead near freeway, a victim of domestic violence, cops say

Modesto Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has announced a breakthrough in the investigation of last night’s tragic homicide, with the arrest of Ruben Olvera, a 32-year-old resident of Ceres, CA.

The incident occurred just before 9 pm on February 16th, leading to the death of a pedestrian near the SR99 NB offramp at 6th St.

The events unfolded when Modesto Police Department officers responded to a reported collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The involved vehicle fled the scene, leaving the injured pedestrian on the onramp. Despite being transported to a local hospital, the victim succumbed to her injuries.

As the investigation progressed, it was determined that the incident fell under the jurisdiction of the Modesto Police Department.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit took charge of the case and worked diligently throughout the night, collecting and processing crucial evidence related to the assault.

Through meticulous investigative efforts, Ruben Olvera was identified as the suspect in this deadly assault, police said.
