Pastor, officials push for solution to long-running Stockton encampment

STOCKTON, Calif. — A church in Stockton says years of problems tied to a nearby homeless encampment have pushed it to seek urgent help from city leaders.

“Our mission is to restore people. Restore broken, hurting, damaged people,” said Damon Bridges, bishop of Stockton’s Restoration for Life Ministries. “We’ve been here now, probably about 12 years.”

While Bridges’ focus inside his church is on worshiping, action at the large homeless encampment just outside the church, within the Mormon Slough, is impossible to ignore…
