Stanislaus County man indicted in alleged assault on federal officers

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — A Stanislaus County man from El Salvador has been indicted on federal charges after prosecutors said he used his vehicle to assault federal immigration officers during an April operation in Patterson.

Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, 36, was charged Thursday with two counts of assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon and one count of destruction of government property, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced.

According to court documents, four federal immigration officers were in Patterson that morning to find and arrest Mendoza Hernandez because prosecutors said he was illegally present in the United States. Agents stopped him near an onramp to Interstate 5 and pulled him over…
