First Alert: Rain is still expected to impact the weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A wet weather pattern is setting up for central and south Alabama and will likely stick around through early next week. That means several rounds of downpours and storms, not just a quick hit-and-miss summer shower.

Storms will continue developing this afternoon and evening, with the greatest concern focused on the southern parts of the area. The main issue is flooding, especially if storms move over the same locations repeatedly. When that happens, water can rise quickly in poor drainage spots, low-lying areas, and near creeks and streams.

Through Sunday and into early next week, we could also see a few larger storm clusters rolling through, bringing widespread heavy rain in a shorter amount of time.
