BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama Law Enforcement Agency troopers are warning the public that celebratory gunfire is illegal and dangerous, as incidents are expected to spike around the Fourth of July holiday.
Officials say discharging a firearm into the air is against the law. Bullets fired into the air return to the ground at dangerous speeds, landing in neighborhoods and putting bystanders at risk.
“Around these times of the year, both New Year’s and Fourth of July, there is a high influx of celebratory gunfire,” Trooper Jaylon James of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said. “Coming from that stems a lot of people, innocent individuals, bystanders being shot and or damages to both property.”…
