Tropical Outlook
We are monitoring an area over the northeastern Gulf of America that has a 20% chance of tropical development this weekend. At this time, it is too early to know if the system will have any local impacts.
Rain Forecast
Rain chances will begin increasing on Thursday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected from Friday through the weekend, bringing periods of wet weather across much of the region.
Tonight and Thursday
Scattered showers are expected this evening, mainly across southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia. On Thursday, the best chances for showers and thunderstorms will shift toward the eastern half of the area as weather conditions become more favorable for rainfall.
Looking Ahead
The forecast from Friday through the weekend remains uncertain because it depends on whether an area of low pressure forms over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Some forecast models show little or no development, while others indicate a weak system could form. Because of these differences, confidence in the forecast is lower than usual.
Regardless of whether a tropical system develops, the region is expected to see numerous showers and thunderstorms from Friday through the weekend. More typical summertime weather, with scattered afternoon and evening storms, is expected to return early next week.
Boating Forecast
Moderate west to northwest winds will continue through much of the forecast period. Boaters should keep a close eye on the forecast this weekend, as a developing area of low pressure over the eastern Gulf could create hazardous conditions for small craft by Sunday…
