MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — Alabama education leaders are signaling they may take a closer look at the state’s virtual public schools after board members raised concerns about student performance, academic outcomes and how taxpayer dollars are being spent.
The discussion unfolded during Tuesday’s Alabama State Board of Education work session, where board member Jackie Zeigler West questioned whether some virtual schools are providing the education families expect while continuing to receive public funding.
“I am very concerned about our virtual schools, our students’ performance in virtual school,” West told the board. “I have a school in District 2 that I am very concerned with student outcomes for reading for our lower grades in particular.”…
